Say goodbye to your warm house, say hello to rising domestic fuel prices, say goodbye to your combustion-engined car, indeed, eventually saying goodbye to personal car ownership…
Say hello to eating the bugs, say hello to your no-other-option staycation which of course will be in your 15 Minute City, say hello to generations of impoverishment…
Starmer has outlined his demands upon the population of the UK, and with tongue firmly in cheek, he said that he was not about changing the lifestyles of the Brits. However, with just 19% of said population behind him, he has outlined life-changing for all policy decisions that will devastate the UK economy and leave those with less disposable income ‘trapped’ in their cold houses… He has no mandate for this but that has never stopped a politician, right?
His demands of the people of Britain include the phasing out of gas boilers by 2033 and ending sales of new petrol and diesel vehicles including hybrids by 2032. Around 10% of emissions savings would come from encouraging people to reduce meat and dairy consumption by 20% and slower growth in flights (read as the cost of your cheap flight will be cheap no more), reductions in car travel and cutting waste.
I can think of plenty of waste that could be cut, and most of that lies within the corridors of power…
But the PM denied that meeting the target would require telling people to change their lifestyles, insisting he would lead a Government that “trod lightly on people’s lives”. And if you believe that I have a bridge going cheap that I could sell you ;)
For Wales Outdoors the impact will be increasingly felt as we get closer to 2035. Clients will be feeling the pinch and will not travel as much. Flights into the UK will diminish, with many local airports closing (I predict within ten years Cardiff airport will be gone) and booking luxury small group tours will become less attractive to those that do manage to make it to Wales.
Throughout the life of Wales Outdoors government policy has impacted growth and, indeed, has ended the business on several occasions, requiring a re-boot, a begin from scratch. Some of my peers got lost along the way, unable to react quickly enough or just fed up with the interference and soul destroying effects of decisions made by the men in suits. I’m working on a piece detailing all of these ‘interferences’ in detail. Watch this space.
This are our thoughts on the ‘climate crisis’.
