I am firmly of the opinion that my business, dependent on private car ownership, has but a few years left. I’ll make the most of those and then will hang up my mountain guide hat. We are inexorably being nudged into a car free society BUT without public transport to get us to the places that we want to go, and indeed, with public transport in chaos and with services being cut.
The following links to news articles clearly demonstrate this drive to a car free world. I believe these are a warning to us all, right here, right now, to speak up or forever live in our 15 Minute City.
The playgrounds of the National Parks will be available only to those people who are happy to take a public bus to a shiny centre offering overpriced coffee and an insanely priced vicarious ‘adventure’. A few hardy souls will walk with their backpacks and traverse the hills, as they’ve always done, but businesses such as Wales Outdoors will not be able to meet clients at remote locations as clients will either not own cars or if they do will be put off by the cost of getting there and paying for parking, parking that may or may not be available. The hills will be the playground of the wealthy and the plebs will be content with their local townscape…
