Wales Outdoors delivered two walks this week. What a fine day in the Wye Valley and a very unexpected turn of events on Pen y Fan…
Wye Valley Wander
What a day yesterday was! Unexpected snow in the Wye Valley, which unfortunately, because this is the UK and despite lots of walkers out enjoying the white stuff, saw the closure of the cafe at Symmonds Yat, our planned mid-morning cuppa and cake stop. However, the walk, despite the buckets of mud, was very enjoyable indeed, if tiring because of the slipping.
Sunset on Pen y Fan
Then, on to Pen y Fan for a sunset walk. It began fine then turned into a bit of an epic adventure. The clouds rolled in and it was a 'grey out', nothing to see here. Despite this, the clients got engaged to be married and then we descended slowly over the compacted ice. It must have been the coldest and least scenic of all proposals but memorable nonetheless!
And the proposal high up in the Brecon Beacons at minus five degrees…
Cancelled Sunday
I've called off my day hike exploring Pen y Fan today as with -5 temperatures overnight and throughout today, 3/3/24, the ground will be treacherous and crampons would have been required. I'm sure that many will attempt and turn back and there will be plenty of trips and slips and hopefully nothing worse.
You can book our walks through the Wales Outdoors Website or, if you are a group, you can book us for a bespoke adventure, you choose the date and time, using the ‘Book Your Guide’ option.
