Wales Outdoors delivered two mountain walks this week, both Pen y Fan and both in very challenging conditions. Saturday was a Sunset on Pen y Fan walk and Sunday was a ‘secret’ route to the summit which for most of the up and down follows lesser trod paths or wild country with no paths at all. We had this busy mountain to ourselves!
Sunset On Pen y Fan
Kate, Andy, Mali and Lyric met three clients in the newly developed Pont ar daf car park for a 2.30 pm start. The weather was atrocious but to be fair the three were fit and full of smiles so we powered through the wind and very wet cloud, got the summit pics and descended, all in record time for a group walk, just two hours and ten minutes. Well done team :)
Andy’s Secret Pen y Fan
What a day. We picked up three along the way and met two at Pont ar Daf car park. The weather appeared to be lifting but this was not to be. As we walked up a valley, beautiful when you can see it, the cloud dropped and the wind picked up and it was simply heads down and keep on keepin’ on. Three participants are clients attending Andy’s Three Peak Challenge Events in May 2024 and came along for the training, one is a long time hiker who often joins Andy for his walks and one was a client from a month ago who decided to come back for more. We managed a fine walk although not much point in taking pics as the cloud obscured absolutely everything. However it was a strenuous 9 Mile hike that was a promised a true Welsh mountain day, wet, super windy and great fun :)
