Wales Outdoors delivered one walk this week and our partner business delivered two fine days out to historic sites in South East Wales.
Waterfalls
While Andy was delivering his North of Cardiff tour Graham was in the Waterfalls area of the Brecon Beacons National Park guiding a group of five around a ten mile loop that takes in six named waterfalls and plenty more falls to boot :)
East Of Cardiff With Wales Guided Tours
Five guests made up of three groups of Americans and an historic tour taking in three castles, one abbey and one amphitheatre. The day was well timed with un rushed visits to all locations and a good lunch stop at Tintern. The travel was US politics with most in the car thinking Biden would win the next election (what bubble are they in!) and one, the youngest, being disillusioned with politics and clearly of the opinion that Biden doesn’t have a hope in hell. I bought the guests a pass each that they were able to make use of at other historic sites over the week. All in all a great day and interesting to me, having a keen interest in both history and current affairs.
North Of Cardiff With Wales Guided Tours
It was a fine day and packed with a wide range of attractions. The two clients from Gibaltra (there should have been two more but they were ‘no shows’) enjoyed a drive to Aberfan for a respectful visit to the disaster memorial gardens before heading over to Penderyn for a tour of the whisky production there. It was then to viewpoints of the Brecon Beacons National Park before having lunch in the most vibrant town high street in Wales, Treorchy. The Black Gold mining experience tour followed and the final stop was Castell Coch, the fairytale castle that overlooks the capital of Wales, Cardiff.
My mind was blown by the revelation that during the Second World War, when my mother was evacuated from central London slums to the lovely village of Lynton in North Devon, the majority of kids from Gibraltar were evacuated from there to central London! What were the authorities thinking? The things you learn on these tours…
