Join us on our next trip to Iceland by signing up HERE!
On the 3rd of July in the very wee hours, Andy headed off to Swindon to pick up Kate and Esther and then onto Luton for an early check-in and a 6.30 am flight to Keflavik. Once there we met up with Martin and Tony for a tour of the best of the south of the island along with the Golden Circle and Reykjavik. We were blessed with sunny days and daytime temperatures reaching 20 degrees, a brand-new hire car and some lovely and quirky accommodations. Here is our trip in a few words and a few photos:
Monday
We headed into Reykjavik for a wander then it was off to Selfoss for our accommodation and some rather lovely icecream, the Icelandic’s do love to partake of that dairy product…
Tuesday
We visited a massive waterfall, a hidden hot spring filled mountain pool and the black sand beach plane wreck made famous by the Beiber…
Wednesday
Wednesday was a day of glacial lagoons and frozen beaches…
Thursday
In contrast to the previous day Thursday saw us visit the green gorge, some basalt column waterfalls and the wild landscape close to a glacier…
There was also a wander along the gorgeous black sand beach at Vik and a visit to the needles prominently visible from the ring road…
Friday
It was ‘Golden Circle’ day with waterfalls, bubbling springs, Strokkur Geyser and an extinct volcano all topped off with a visit to the rather lovely ‘Secret Lagoon’…
Saturday
Our final day was a visit to yet more waterfalls and the site of the continental rift then through some truly stunning landscapes, past the earthquake zone and the site of the current eruption (we missed it by two days) and onto our final accommodation in Keflavik and ready for the flight home in the morning.
Sunday
Home we journeyed, all safe and sound :)
