Wales Outdoors delivered four sunny days with a group of Dutch hikers, two in North Wales, one in the Brecon Beacons and one in West Wales and Wales Guided Tours had two fine days out, one to the Gower and one North of Cardiff visiting industrial heritage…
The Gower
Andy had a full compliment and headed off for our tour of The Gower, being Mumbles, Three Cliffs, Oxwich and Rhossili. In the main the weather played ball with sun and warmth and the clients, from California, Germany and INdai all had a rather enjoyable day of mini hikes and ice cream :)
Newborough
A repeat visit for our Dutch hiking group, well, the tour company is the same but the clients were new. First stop Newborough and a hike to the lighthouses with some chat about the Welsh patron saint of lovers. Wow, it was breezy out there but all the more fun for it.
Snowdon
Andy powered up the Pyg track and met the Dutch group at the summit station, along with the other guides who accompanied the group on the train. A simple job of walking down the Llanberis path turned into a bit of an epic, the Dutch hikers not being used to sloping ground it seems, and one we placed on the train as she was struggling from the get go. It took three hours to descend as contrasted with Andy’s ascent of just an hour and a half…
The Valleys
Andy had just two clients for a tour North of Cardiff taking in Aberfan, the Brecon Beacons, Penderyn Whisky, Treorchy High Street, Rhondda Heritage Park and Castell Coch. The couple, from California, were blown away by the views and the history and being keen photographers went home with a digital bank of memories.
Waterfalls
Graham led this Dutch hikers tour of the waterfalls in the Brecon Beacons from Pontneddfechan, taking in both Horseshoe falls and Sgwd Gwladys as well as numerous unnamed waterfalls along the way. The sun was out highlighting the leaves and the splashes of water and the Dutch found this hike easier than the long downhill of Snowdon.
Tenby
This was our last day with the Dutch and we walked them from Saundersfoot to Tenby, along the Wales Coast Path and sometimes on the beach as the tide was fortuitously very much out. They did well, racking up the 7km of undulating terrain in about three hours.
