Wales Outdoors delivered particularly sunny waterfall walk this week as well as a hike up Pen y fan for some wild swimming in the lake there and Wales Guided Tours had a fine day trip taking in three castles, one abbey and a Roman amphitheatre…
East Of Cardiff - It’s All About Ruins…
We were a group of four, travelling from Cardiff to Caerleon for the Roman Amphitheatre, to Chepstow Castle, Tintern Abbey (for lunch) then onto Caerphilly Castle and finally the glorious Castell Coch.
On board we had a doctor from Indonesia, a mother and daughter from Florida and a Canadian travel writer.
The chatter was wide ranging and interesting throughout the tour, kept moving by Andy as he regailed the guests with tall tales from history, current affairs and the occasional conspiracy theory :)
The travel writer, Caryl Dolinko, even suggested she may add a new chapter to her forthcoming book following chatting to Andy, the future of travel, and focusing on how the move to net zero is a game changer for all. You can find Caryls published works here - https://www.caryldolinko.com/books.html
Waterfalls
What a stunning day! 7 clients for one of our spectacular small group tours (we don’t take more than 8) taking six of the gorgeous waterfalls in the South of the Brecon Beacons National Park. It’s been a while since we’ve seen sun and experienced temperatures such as this and long may this weather remain with us :)
Pen y Fan Wild Swimming
The weather held out, although on the Saturday was on and off, providing the private booking of eight a fine day out on the hill. We left from the Login, which is south of Brecon and North of Pen y Fan and walked up to Tommy Jones Memorial before the steep climb to the summit of Corn Du. It was then onto the summit of the highest mountain in Southern Britain, Pen y Fan, for the summit photo and lunch, before hilariously sliding down the hillside on our backsides, towards the sparkling jewel of Llyn Cwm Llwch and a swim with the leeches that populate this upland lake.
Don’t be concerned though, no leeches attached themselves and a great time was had by all :)
