Wales Outdoors delivered one particularly sunny waterfall walk this week and Wales Guided Tours had a fine day trip north to the Brecon Beacons and back via the industrial valleys…
North of Cardiff
Amazingly both groups of Americans, who were unknown to each other, were from Indianapolis. We visited the Aberfan Memorial Gardens situated in the street that Andy used to live in, then on to Penderyn Whisky before a gorgeous tour through the Brecon beacons and on to Big Pit (Rhondda Heritage Park, our usual port of call, was closed for the day). Big Pit was quiet and instead of a one hour underground tour the four Americans luxuriated in the friendly welcome and extended tour underground which was nearly two hours. They had a blast and appreciated the wonderful tour offered by the great guides at Big Pit. Final stop was Castell Coch, but too late for a visit inside, but no complaints as the mine experience blew my clients minds :)
Waterfalls
An actual sell out day for us, we limit group sizes to 8 people and we had eight booked on, for a full day 10 mile hike around the waterfalls area of the Brecon Beacons National Park. However, we had 6 no shows, unusual, but it does happen, and so walked in glorious sunshine with our lucky two guests who had Andy, and Lyric the hound, effectively to themselves :)
