Wales Outdoors was on a ‘busman’s holiday’ this week, taking a break from delivery and enjoying a few days in wonderful North Wales, hiking, sampling some delicious food and taking a tour :) And Wales Guided Tours had a last minute group booking…
Gilfach Farm Nature Reserve
It's a spot that most certainly doesn't get too many visitors, but it's gorgeous, has a fine waterfall and some interesting remains of a railway line and some medieval house foundations. We stopped at Gilfach Farm Nature Reserve on the way north and had a fine walk, breaking up our journey and stretching both our and our dog's legs :)
Just north of Rhayader and a highly recommended stop-off point if travelling Wales' north-south trunk road, the A470.
Plas Dinas Country House Hotel
We went for some fine dining here, and we highly recommend both the taster menu and staying at this wonderful hotel…
Formerly the home of the remarkable Armstrong-Jones family, we offer you eleven individually styled bedrooms with five star comforts, in an historic yet relaxed surroundings. Featuring beautiful grounds, the award-winning Gunroom Restaurant that features a monthly changing fine dining experience and delicious afternoon teas.
Criccieth Castle
here we were treated to a free tour of the castle, courtesy of Wales Best Guides and CADW. It was entertaining and informative and well worth the drive to the coast…
Nant Gwrtheyrn
We had a wander here, dropping out of the cloud that was bathing the entirety of the Llyn Peninsula, to the coast where there was just about good visibility…
The Dyfi Hills
On the way back south we went for a two hour hike in the Dyfi hills, plenty to see including old mine workings and not another person in sight…
Three Castles Tour
I wasn’t going to be working this day but a family of four, three generations of women, got in touch and booked me for this one, and another joined them too. It’s Caerleon first stop, then onto Chepstow Castle, Tintern Abbey, Caerphilly Castle and finally Castle Coch. This fully inclusive tour is being rewritten and will in future include both the legionary museum and the Roman Baths at Caerleon too.
