Wales Outdoors Is A Founding Member Of European Trails
Wales Outdoors are proud to announce that we are a founding member of European Trails, a group of 10 European trail enthusiasts.
The driving force behind European Trails is Hartmut Wimmer, CEO of the stunning map app Outdoor Active. If you haven’t downloaded it yet you are missing out on great functionality and worldwide mapping.
European Trails is in its infancy but it nhopes to grow its membership rapidly.
‘In order to drive forward our efforts on a European level, we are in the process of founding European Trails, which will act as the European hub of the World Trails Network (WTN). This organization will tackle the problem of inadequate infrastructure in Europe and give trail management organizations a strong, common voice.’
Well, the process of founding has been achieved, and now the work begins…
Issues such as trail awards, trail ratings and trail management will be part of the work of European Trails.
Wales Outdoors are keen for a European-wide standard to be requested of the authorities that manage trails. Wales Outdoors has been critical of the management of trails within the Brecon Beacons and in South Wales, many of which are in a shocking state of repair. Indeed, the mismanagement of one trail in the Brecon Beacons National Park has most certainly been the cause of at least one tragic death and the frustrating thing about this was that Wales Outdoors warned the authorities on at least five separate occasions that deaths would occur.
