The Small Print
The small print page provides information relative to all of our events. We’ve kept it to a minimum, to be clear about timings, leaders, money etc and it is your responsibility to ensure you are happy with the information and simple conditions.
THE LEADERS
Andy Lamb who has been a Brecon Beacons National Park Part Time Warden and BBNP Volunteer and Guided Walks Co-ordinator, Chair of Brecon Beacons Tourism, a D of E and The Princes Trust Co-ordinator in Powys, in RCT and in Merthyr Tydfil and is currently the owner of Wales Outdoors. Andy is a Mountain Leader with nearly 30 years of guiding in Wales and further afield experience. You’ll have an informative, fun and memorable day.
Graham Glue is our foraging expert and no mean mountaineer of some long standing.
Melitsa Humphries will be leading this walk with her four legged companion Meg. Melitsa has been working within the fitness industry for over 25 yrs and is a strong advocate of walking for health and well-being. Her passion for walking has drawn Melitsa to join Andy and his team and she is currently developing her Hill and Moorland leadership skills at the Mountain training centre Plasy Brenin.
Cori-Lee Blackman is a ‘Custodian at a Castle’, a career that has come about from enjoying childhood walks around ruins in the countryside and fossil collecting at the beach. She has a degree in Ancient History and Archaeology, and is currently finishing an MA on the Iron Age Forts along the Glamorgan Heritage Coastal path. Walking her Doberman ‘Dante’ and discovering sites and scenic spaces have been Cori-Lee’s favourite pastimes.
David Thomas has been a Mountain leader for over 30 years. He is a well respected leader and good fun to be out for a walk with too.
Neal Batchelor has recently retired from the Telecoms industry and is passionate about the great outdoors of Wales, so much so that he recently decided to move to West Wales to live after coming here for weekends and holidays over many years and not really wanting to go home 🙂 Neal has been a regular on Wales Outdoors events and has enjoyed their events so much that he felt inspired to become a walk leader himself.
Isobel Thomas is Andy’s wonderful assistant and is out on all of his large group walks.
Kate Barber is Andy’s partner and is out on most of the weekend walks, acting as an experienced support team member and dog carer.
Naomi Saxon has walked with Wales Outdoors for a few years and decided it was time for her to lead a walk or two. Naomi is a professional and keen walker. She will mostly be leading coastal walks to the West of Swansea.
IMPORTANT
Dogs are very welcome (not on overseas trips though)
Walking boots please
It may be that part or all of an event needs to be changed due to conditions beyond our control such as weather or changes to access that we could not foresee. In these instances we go with our best alternative and continue on with the day.
Warm layers and waterproofs essential
You’ll need a good packed lunch (for day walks)
We don’t cancel due to weather unless it is unsafe to drive
We will be leaving promptly so please arrange to be at the meeting point by the stated time. If running late then do message this event page and if we have service we’ll pick up and may be able to arrange to wait for/meet you.
GENERAL GROUP INFO
We charge for our walks in order to have a vibrant and exciting programme of events available to group members. The charge ensures that delivery is sustainable. We offer a range of walks of different lengths and difficulties so hope to cover most levels of ability/fitness.
The key objectives of the group are to get people outdoors and walking and socialising with others who enjoy the same. We encourage the development of interest in the hills and mountains of Wales and we encourage our members to build their skills and to get out on their own or to look to us for guided adventures in the UK and abroad.
Wales Outdoors is actively seeking members and new walking leaders.
INSURANCE
Public liability insurance to 10 Million per occurrence is provided for Andy’s events. This is with ‘Protectivity’ and the policy number is 444900072858 – 9/11/19 to 8/11/20.
No liability or insurance is provided for events led by other guided walk leaders.
All participate at their own risk and as adults or parents decide whether the chosen event is for them. The level of participation in any event is always a personal choice.
We recommend that you take out a personal activity insurance plan to protect any loss of income following an accident. Here is a link to one of the numerous companies offering this service – https://www.protectivity.com/sports-accident-insurance/
OUR CREDIT POLICY
We do not give refunds but we do give credits.
Cancelled places will be credited if we have 3 or more days notice.
There will be no credit for non attendance even with notice of up to 3 days. This is because it is unlikely, given that amount of notice, that we will be able to re-sell that place on the event.
OUR HOLIDAY REFUND POLICY
We Cancel: In the unheard of situation where we have to cancel an event, not happened to date, you get a 100% refund of monies paid but we will not be liable for associated costs that you have incurred.
You Cancel: More than 30 days notice – 100% refund. 16-29 days notice – 50% refund. 10-15 days notice – 25% refund. Less than 10 days notice – 0% refunded – This is because it is unlikely, given that amount of notice, that we’ll be able to fill the spot/s.
We therefore recommend that you have some holiday insurance in place to cover cancellations or re-scheduling that is beyond your control.
