The Skirrid
It was a weekend in the far east of the Brecon Beacons National Park walking an easy afternoon and the following day a challenge event of distance and height gained...
The easy first day was a complete exploration of The Skirrid, a fine small and isolated hill and the easternmost part of the Black Mountains.
It's a fine hill with excellent views on all sides and wonderful to walk around and summit on.

We began with more than we finished with, loosing three towards the beginning of the day due to the initial steep ascent and the mud, it was one step forwards and at times two back. But we gained the main path and then effectively contoured around the mountain. We stopped for snacks on the steep and rocky northern slopes then, after some glorious woodland, gained the main route up and so onto the summit. Here another fell by the wayside as she was coming down with flu, there was a lot around at that time...
The summit was windy but bright and the views were gorgeous and all ours :)
We'll certainly be back and hopefully sometime soon :)
