Written before the recent re-branding, this shows where the money is going, on vanity projects and virtue signaling on a grand scale. I believe the rebranding was in order to justify fat salaries, whilst core infrastructure that ought to be safe for visitors to enjoy, things like footpaths, disabled access routes and historic countryside locations, remain in such a sad state of disrepair that they are not fit for use and in many cases are dangerous and remain closed. They don’t want you driving, they won’t improve public transport and so I believe they don’t want us visiting the great outdoors.
Pont Melin Fach - I think that Pont Melin Fach is a fine location for the less able to access the river and the forest and just be in nature. The closure of the car park between April and September dramatically reduces the options for guides and removes from the mix one of the most attractive locations in the area for the less able to visit. Example, I have a group of four 70 years plus women who want a shorter walk and the proposed distance and time is ideally suited to a start in Pontneddfechan and a pick up at Pont Melin Fach. This, because of the closure, is not possible. I don't tell you this because I think you will consider the implications of the closure on the people that visit the area, but to express my anger at the closure and the reduced options both for guides and for visitors.
The Dangerous Path - Closed path between the Clun Gwyns - Why has this path not been repaired. Users demand a circular route and the removal of this option will lead to and daily does lead to confusion in the area and to visitors 'finding their own path', I believe this places hikers in more danger than leaving the closed path open. Again I don't expect the NP to move anytime soon on this but I urge you as a warden to consider the user’s behavior and desires rather than what will cover the BBNP in case of any accident or injury. Repair the closed path!
The Gunpowder Works - What the hell is going on here? How much public money has been poured into this small area that is now all but closed to visitors. Why don't you get out there and repair the path from Dinas Rock. Why not work on access from the Village Hall! Why is the path closed from the gunpowder works upstream? Please can you give me a breakdown of costs of works done in this area to maintain the structures, to put in the ugliest disabled access bridge with no paths now to serve it, and to install talking guides that long ago disappeared and even longer ago stopped working. Please also let me know what plan is in place to bring this area back to a suitable state for visitors to enjoy.
