Pont Melin Fach

I walked past this small and usually rather quiet car park a couple of weekends ago and it was locked. This is my exchange with NRW

Please explain why Pont Melin Fach and other car parks are closed. I walked past on Sunday and saw this... No explanation, an all summer time frame and the creation of at busy times chaos on country lanes...4 commentsLikeCommentShare

• Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru / Natural Resources WalesHi Andrew,I have been advised of the following and hope this helps:Following discussions with Brecon Beacons National Park (BBNP), and Dyfed-Powys Police, the Pont Melin Fach car park is closed from March 22nd until September 30th. Access at our forest entrance along the road west of the bridge is also restricted.This closure is part of a partnership approach between NRW and BBNP, to manage visitors to Waterfall Country. A sign stating ‘Car park ahead CLOSED’ was commissioned by BBNP and is displayed at the junction on Ystradfellte Road, and similar information is affixed to the barrier at the (now closed) car park entranceThanks,Garin

• Andrew LambWelcome to Wales! A terrible look for tourism in the area. Shameful Garin. Limiting parking options is not the solution. Did the authorities not think that this would lead to dangerous parking at the closed locations? Perhaps you could put a sign up at the barrier stating that the authorities do not want visitors to the countryside as that certainly seems to be the case. I don't use Pont Melin Fach to park but I would support those who wish to. Closing the countryside and adding pressure on the honeypot locations is something that ought to be avoided at all costs. The disaster of the quoted partnership at other locations in the BBNP, in particular at Pont ar Daf, demonstrates that the authorities couldn't manage a in a brewery... Indeed, this has been admitted to me by most parties involved. Open up the car parks and let people enjoy the countryside as they have always done.
