Pen y Fan Winter Solstice

After a fabulous morning solstice walk and tea and cake and the Brecon Beacons National Park Visitor Centre then a pub lunch in Brecon we headed to Pont ar Day Car Park and met up with a fine group of brave walkers from the Wales Outdoors meetup group.

We were headed to the summit of the highest point in Southern Britain, Pen y Fan, for the Winter Solstice. 

The grey start did surprise with the cloud parting at the Bwlch but then, oh my, the cloud closed in and the wind picked up until it was a true mountain battle to gain the summit of Corn Du. But gain it we did and then onto Pen y Fan where the skies played ball and a sunset of sorts was observed.

The lovely group then spent some time on top before, after the cold started to bite, heading back down and I suppose for all preparing for Christmas... 

This was Any's last walk for the group in 2019 and it was a fine day and a fine way to end the year.

We'll be back delivering the same next year :)
