Paypal
THE MONDAY MOAN - A once a week spot for us to moan about the stuff that perhaps we should all be moaning about that little bit more...
As you know we mostly take payment for walks through the meetup page and so through PayPal. Well... Paypal have informed us that they will no longer repay the fee for refunds given.
This is what PayPal said:
'PayPal - In line with industry practice and according to our updated policy, we will not charge a fee to process refunds, however fees from the original transaction will not be returned. This policy will not apply to duplicate transactions or voids. You can review the PayPal User Agreement for more information on our return policies.'
Prior to the lockdown we wrote:
'When you pay £12.50 for a walk to PayPal we get £11.84 and PayPal take £0.666. When someone cancelled a walk we used to pay them back the £11.84 and PayPal used to refund their income on the transaction too, meaning the the client received back £12.50 in total. No longer will that be the case.'
We've no idea why there has been this change apart from greed from those cornering the market and being too big to fail...
For this reason and others including Paypal's poor support of small business during the crisis, we have decided to 'jump ship'. We will not be using PayPal in the future and instead have set up a payment portal on the Wales Outdoors website. We will therefore be able to continue, once we are 'back to normal', to offer full refunds where appropriate.
Don't join them...
