Natural Resources Wales are another government department that are impossible to deal with. And it is they that manage the coastline on this dramatic and much loved part of Anglesey.
Last year we drove to the main car park, which displayed no coach restrictions and indeed posed no problems of access or parking, only to be told by their staff that we could not park there. It was 30 degrees and we had a large party of elderly hikers that we then had to walk through the forest to a layby, an extra 5 km. This was nearly too much for some! Read about last year HERE.
Following my complaint NRW imposed a coach ban on the beach car park but do offer parking for coaches, nearby, by arrangement. The tour operator for this years trip was in touch by email with NRW and they refused us. We once again had to hike a great deal of extra distance with an elderly group of Dutch hikers, making for a far from ideal situation.
The thing is, NRW had staff at the gate on the morning of our visit, ensuring we did not take the coach to the main car park. They could have very easily directed us to the designated coach parking area.
So, it will be the island of Anglesey’s loss as I will be directing the Dutch tour company to remove this visit and the other Anglesey locations from their itinerary for future years and we will be delivering our hike at a more friendly North Wales location. I’ll be letting the MP and MS for Anglesey know about this sorry state of affairs…
