It's a rambling moan...
BIKES Good weather, the A470 running through the Brecon Beacons and the noise! It's bike mania with 'organ donors' speeding and pulling wheelies and crashing... And it's Harleys with a low but loud grumbling poot poot and Japanese bikes with a shrill peace shattering scream and of course the Chinese bikes... Copies of the same but even more dangerous...
There is no immediate solution but a dictator, perhaps, could limit the bikes to sensible speeds and have a law passed that ensures that vehicles are as quiet as can be. No one likes the noise apart from the riders themselves and that's just rude and lacking in common decency. I'd be interested in hearing from riders who have noisy bikes and their justification in being so inconsiderately loud.
CAFES There is a cafe at the start to one of our walks and it was amazing. I met groups there regularly and had clients overnight there and we would give them more trade at the end of the walks too. But it's not amazing anymore. The covid's have ruined it. A 27 minute wait for a takeout cuppa? When there were just three people there waiting to be served? Clients trying to make an accommodation booking, being directed to five or six different portals and eventually simply failing to book. I've taken down the links to and we no longer meet there.
TWATS And finally, camping at campsites. I try to avoid as they are usually overpriced and noisy. We stayed at a pub site a few weeks back but we, along with a few others, had to move off and go to a wild spot as there was a group of guys behaving like fucking idiots. One person can ruin an evening. A group of guys often do. You have to wonder who dragged them up...
And so, given I can't travel abroad this or likely any future summer, I won't take the jab you see, I'll be avoiding the campsites and running the gauntlet of the Hitler's as I park up in small rural layby's, away from the crowds of the coast and South Wales honey pots, in areas that few visit. I'll be avoiding the majority of shops and cafes and bars and restaurants too as I will no longer wear a mask and to be absolutely honest I do not want the hassle from jobsworths or covid flag wavers - haha - no one gets my hard earned this year...
People, wouldn't the countryside be amazing without them ;)
