Very many years ago I was camped near Balloch on Loch Lomond and had the whole evening ruined by a selfish arsehole on a jet ski. That experience led me to be fully in favour of banning noisy stuff in the great outdoors, so jet skis, ban them, off-road bikes, ban them, quads, ban them...
The thing is, the vicarious pleasure gained from a cheap piece of Chinese manufactured motorised transport is pleasure off the back of the environment and other users of such. I'd even ban all of the electric scooters, the electric pushbikes, indeed anything that is technical and motorised and for use outdoors... In the case of scooters and cycles, these will be bought, used a couple of times, stored in the shed and in a few years' time thrown into landfills. The purchase of these types of goods underlines my belief that we are in the handcart and we are on the way to hell and there really are no brakes...
Anyways, the landowners at Oxwich have done the right thing and good on them! It's just a shame that they had not done this very many years ago...
Welsh beach bans Jet Skis and other water bikes because it claims they are too loud and dangerous to families
A popular Welsh beach is banning Jet Skis and other water bikes because it claims they are too loud and potentially dangerous to families.
From April 1, 2022, the Penrice Estate has decided to no longer allow such craft to launch at Oxwich Bay in Gower.
It said dangerous driving and noise pollution caused by a small number of people had forced the decision, with the priority being the safety and enjoyment of families at the beach.
