Dominos...
THE MONDAY MOAN - A once a week spot for us to moan about the stuff that perhaps we should all be moaning about that little bit more...
This is a strange one and not at all about pizza or food delivery or fast food or... It's about the control grid...
A couple of weeks back I was parent sitting while my sister took a well earned and 50th birthday break in Prague. My father is 91 and can't really be left alone. And my niece was about and she was chatting to me one morning, you know the kind of chat, like 'what should we have for dinner tonight' and the chat included getting an order from Dominos.
My father was against this, he says he's not keen on pizza but I've never seen him not eat it... Anyways, no more chat about pizza but about four hours later, in late afternoon, just when it might be expected that thoughts would be turned to what was going to be eaten that evening I received a text.
The text was from Dominos in the village where my father lives. It said that we could go for a two for one offer, and that wasn't available in the website menus.
Now, although most will know that I AM a conspiracy fact person I am not about to suggest that Dominos are listening to me... First off, I don't have their app and so I haven't given them permission to listen in to my chat with my niece...
But I have ordered pizza from my smartphone using a web page and I have therefore given Dominos my phone number and I am now convinced that somehow Dominos can track my phone and when I am within a set distance from a branch of Dominos that I have previously ordered from a pre set text is sent to me mentioning that location. As the text was specific, it said something like Dominos Borough Green is offering a BYGOF...
Useful perhaps BUT WTF? Dominos is able to track my location based on my mobile phone? I can think of no other explanation.
This control grid stuff has gone too far... And I am little bit scared...
So not so much a moan, more a shout out and confusion... Be careful out there and seriously, are Dominos able to do that?
