Buddy Beacon - The Wales Outdoors FREE Mountain Hiking Safety Service
Wales Outdoors a very long time ago partnered with Outdoor Active, the very best Map App for your mountain and casual hiking, not just in the UK, but around the world too.
Embedded within the app is a simple to use service that enables you, in real time, to share your location with a buddy. It’s called Buddy Beacon.
Now that we have two full-time staff we are able to do something that we have always wanted to do, and that is to offer a free service to those that support Wales Outdoors, by subscribing to our blog or by coming out on our hikes or tours. You know who you are :)
It works this way:
You download the Outdoor Active Map App using code WALES10Z, this gives you £10 off your subscription, and you add Wales Outdoors as a buddy. When you want to be tracked by us you simply let us know and you activate Buddy Beacon from your phone.
We’ll have a pre-arranged cut off which will depend on your route and your expected time out on the hill and if you have not signed in with us at the agreed time we will try to contact you. If no contact can be made we’ll notify the emergency services.
Think of Wales Outdoors as your control centre, your safety net, your ‘buddy’…
